REQUIREMENT:
Lion Laboratories required four sturdy castings to house their new electronic breathalyser unit with high strength and electrical
conductivity but with the cosmetic standard of plastic moulding.
WHY MICRO METALSMITHS?
Micro Metalsmiths was able to offer through discussions with the design engineers a suite of four components which were cast,
machined, match assembled and with a painted finish ready to accept the electronics and power source.
The electronic casing was manufactured in two halves, assembled and then turned with a special square thread form in-house.
The battery compartment was cast as two items designed with cast crushable ribs on the cap to produce a reliable press fit and give a good electrical conductivity between the bonded joint.
The MM casting process was able to provide an alternative to plastic injection moulded components which gave the strength required without compromising the design or finish.
