WHY MICRO METALSMITHS?
Shape is critical with this component. When in use, it spins around the axis of a guided thread. Evenoak needed a method of maintaining the correct alignment for the thread and hole. The MM casting process enables all the detail, except the screw thread, to be cast. Correct casting design allowed the final thread-forming operation to be completed without compromising the alignment of the finished part.
When the part was machined from solid the associated turning and milling operations combined to give a high risk of distortion because of the small size and thin section of the finished component.
